Resolution of the Interdenominational meeting of the Commission on Social Service of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations “Community mobilization against domestic violence and gender-based violence”
We, the participants of this meeting, are aware of the urgency of the problem of violence, and in particular, of domestic and gender-based violence. Which requires urgent action not only from the state but also from society as a whole, we consider it necessary to pay attention to:
The importance of adopting new legislative initiatives, which is an important step forward in preventing and combating domestic violence, including against women, and to draw the public’s attention to the need for their implementation and further improvement of implementation mechanisms.
The need to set up a working group “Churches against violence.” Develop a concept and strategy for joint action “Religious Leaders – Community,” justifying non-violence from a theological point of view.
The need for education in theological institutions on violence prevention.
The need to conduct educational work with the population in the field of violence prevention. To hold information campaigns, flash mobs, advocacy, prayer actions, video creation, on social networks, “We are against violence.” Joining religious leaders to participate in the UN “16 Days against violence” and other national and international events.
The need to develop cross-sectoral collaboration in the field of charity and mercy, promote the activities of existing shelters, and centers for victims of domestic violence with a focus on international standards.
The need to conduct training and seminars with the participation of religious leaders and NGOs to discuss issues of ensuring the rights of children and families, further steps to combat domestic violence, and strengthen the moral foundations of society.
The importance of implementing non-abusive behavior programs in education entities in the spirit of morality and family values for children and adolescents.
The need to create and release a guide, “Family without Violence.”
The urgent need to develop an “information card” to help victims of violence and distribute these cards to religious communities. Develop a system of redirection of victims of violence (to have a base of NGOs, religious organizations, specialized institutions in the regions, hotlines, free legal aid centers).
During the meeting, we came to the conclusion that it is essential to activate and engage the religious community in the protection of the rights of children and families, fight against domestic violence not only for women, but also men, children (especially), and other family members in order to reinforce moral principles of society, deepening cooperation with the non-governmental and government sectors.
