“Management for Change and Innovation”
New one semester professional course in
social, community and diaconal work
February – June 2018
This interdiac five-month course starting in February 2018 could be the right choice for YOU if you…

- Have an interest to learn about approaches to management of projects and organisations, which support change and innovation?
- Would like to develop your knowledge and skills?
Course Content
The course will build on your experience of working with people and covers the following topics:
- Understanding the personal basis of social, youth and diaconal work as a positive resource in the work we do.
- Understanding of context and management of professional work.
- Learning about project development and management.
- Learning about professional practice and organisational development.
- Learning about models of management – ethical and diaconal consideration.
- Understanding diversity issues in the management of social work and nonprofit organisations.
- Deepening understanding of the ethical basis of social, youth and diaconal work in practice.
- Integrating the theological and biblical basis of social and youth work and diaconia and relevant spirituality.
The interdiac Learning Approach
The programme will use a participatory approach that will integrate:
- Your own experience and practice with the development of new knowledge and skills.
- Contact teaching in four workshops in an international group, which will be held in Český Těšín.
- Practice based learning in-between the contact teaching.
- On-line learning using the platform Fronter.
The curriculum has been designed by interdiac partners, especially for people working in Central and Eastern Europe.
Accreditation
The course is recognised as having 30 ECTS and students will be registered with the Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Diak), which is the largest University for social & youth work, diaconia and nursing in Finland.
Diak will provide a transcript of records of the study, according to the ECTS system, so the student who completes the course will receive a diploma from interdiac with the recognition of Diak. The students will join others who are enrolled in the degree programme accredited by Diak and by Charles University, Prague.
Timetable for the Course
The Course starts on the 12th February 2018 and Contact teaching sessions in Helsinki will be held on the following dates:
- February 12 – 16, 2018
- March 19 – 23, 2018
- May 7 – 11, 2018
- June 18 – 21, 2018
In between each contact teaching session, course members will continue in their own work place or stay in Český Těšín (Czech republic) and follow a practice placement locally. The Course ends on the 21st June 2018.

The participants in the one-semester programme will join the student group following the Double Degree Programme in Social Services – focus on Diaconia and Christian Social Practice.

Closing date for Applications
The application form must be returned at the latest by the 15th September 2017.
The results of the selection committee will be published by the 6 th October 2017.
NOTE: If you want to apply for the one year course, the closing date is 31st March 2017 and the results will be published by the 13th April 2017.
Financial Matters
The study fee will be 40€ per study unit session plus the costs of accommodation in Český Těšín during contact teaching sessions and at other times if the student stays in the area. These costs are kept to a minimum. Admitted students will have the possibility to apply for financial support to help cover travel and accommodation expenses. Language and Practicalities
The study programme is taught in English and therefore applicants should be able to follow the programme and produce assignments in English.
Please note that this course is ‘full time’ because it includes either an agreed practice placement specially organised locally or that participants continue in their own working place in diaconal, social or youth work.
